okay - I jumped the gun in my assessment in the last e-mail, I think. Marnelle at KE just came by to look at the grapes and advised us to pick the Zinfandel now. The rains have stressed the grapes causing them to start bursting, and thus, start spoiling "botritis" -( that earthy smell relished in European reds, but not so much here in the US) Anyway, we will be picking the Zin only on Wednesday. That makes me think, though, that with more rain in the forecast this week, the others may experience the same difficulty and that perhaps this weekend they, too, will be ready to pick! The BRIX level today is only at 16-17 unfortunately. I will also probably pick the Cab early as the birds are gaining too much weight in juices! So you might get ready for harvesting the syrah and sangiovese this weekend and I'll let you know more after Wednesday.
